Hi peoples,
I just signed up on the list and just wanted to say "Hi". I
pick up a 69 Chevelle in about a week as part of my Xmas present.
Any restoration tips would be greatly appreciated. It's a "middle of the
road" restore case from what I have seen, but has lots of typical rust for a
midwest car. I noticed that there are plenty of replacement parts available,
and some buddys offered to teach me to weld them in, as well as offer the
use of their welding equipment. I have a lot to learn and that's part of why
I am signing up here. TEACH me please oh knowledegable and experienced ones
:)
It's not going to be a "racing" car, although it IS a sports/muscle car and
will look the part as well as act it if/when I want. I hope to be able to
control that and keep it to a minimum, speeding tickets are expensive ;) I
hope to only drive it to work occasionally, special occasions, warm summer
nights, and "cruise-in's". I don't plan on competing in large shows against
guys that have a lot more money than me.
Right now it has a stock mid 80's 350 in it, but I think that will have to
be replaced with a 396 or reasonable facsimile thereof ;) I also plan to
replace the auto-magic with a 4 speed. Replace the bench with buckets, and
put in a console. I know, a lot of modifications, and why didn't I just
leave it as it is or buy a diffrent car? Well I WANT a 4 speed, and for the
shape it's in, the price was about right and maybe as cheap as I can get
started and still have something to work with. I am aware that it won't be
"original" or as valuable to collectors or purists. I am building this car
for ME !!! Not anyone else.
Ok, ok, it may be part of a midlife crises thing, and I know it will be
expensive! But will help to keep me busy and out of trouble ;) Therefore
maybe less expensive in the longrun ? ;)

assist me in tips, techiniques, good places to buy parts etc. I would
appreciate hearing from you.
