Hello David,
Yes, all '69 SS El Caminos were mono-color (except for an optional
vinyl top that was often a different color than the body).
'69 SS El Caminos did not come with the lower body-side molding,
but '68 SS's did (and the '68-'69 molding is the same). '69s never came
with hood stripes - they had optional upper body-side stripes.
The non-SS '69 Custom El Camino models did come with the
contrasting silver lower body. I like the silver lower body.
When I did my '68 (black), I put silver below the trim.
The '69 silver was called "Cortez Silver" (paint sales code 69).
I think the paint codes are on Team Chevelle somewhere
(El Camino & Chevelle share the same codes/colors).
The tailgate center "stripe" was always semi-gloss black
on SS's, simulated woodgrain on non-SS custom models, and
body color on Standard models.
But like your idea of the silver hood stripes, lower body sides
(and tailgate stripe ?).

I've got a '69 SS El Camino. I'm currently painting it. I wanted to paint the
lower side trim silver to match the SS hood stripes I'm painting. Do you know
of a source of info that would tell me what paint options were available on
the '69 SS models? I've heard that the SS models didn't come with the lower
side molding and so therefore weren't available in two tone color schemes. I
believe my car is an original SS, it doesn't have the lower side molding,
and is not two tone, (currently it's stripped and is no tone, and not the
original engine). This will be a semi custom paint job, but I'd like it to be
close to what was available originally. Also, was the area within the
tailgate molding always black on the SS models for '69?
