Hey Denny, Don't rule out a 383 sbc. There's plenty of 500HP 383 combos out there (super Chevy, Car Craft, etc). I've got a pretty health 383 in a tow vehicle - I've also got a 454 powered car etc... I'd go with the Big Block if eye lid peelin grunt is what your looking for, however, If money is a concern go with the 383 stoker and a little extra gear....with the 454, a turbo 400 and 12 bolt may be in order.
