Well, a little bio on me.... Just getting into cars and decided to buy a 1972 Chevelle from a friend. The body is OK (some mud), but for the price, not bad. It has the stock 350 and I am replacing the Saginaw 3spd with a Turbo 350. Right now, there is no trans in the car and the motor has a whooped cam (minimum). The car has set for the last 6 yrs as a project by the wayside. Luckily, my friend is a body man and is helping with the car. Add that to the motor man in the bunch, I am will be OK.
Before the car hits the road, I plan to do some work. If someone can help me with ballpark figures, that would be great... Upgrade to front disc brakes (plan to look in salvage yards) Power Brakes Would like to upgrade to rear disc, but have not seen too many mentions of it... Suspension: shocks, springs, drop spindles Rear end: posi unit with 3.73 gears Rims and tires - street Rims and tires - strip (not a priority) Ignition System Race Exhaust with Cut-outs for open header at the track 15 Gallon Fuel Cell I am 'designing' an engine right now. Trying to find the best bang for the buck. I realize that 11's on pump gas will be difficult, but it may be possible. Even low 12's would be great. I plan to run electric accessories to maximize horsepower gains. Based on my reading, I will most likely stroke the motor on the rebuild. After the car hits the street for awhile, I will debate on the 6-71 blower vs. a big block. IF (more like WHEN) it becomes a full blown race car, I will price the better fiberglass available. As far as my past, you can tell I run with a lot of Mustang guys.. I told everyone it would be an old muscle car, an old wagon, or an 87-93 Mustang Coupe that I would build.
