yeah my previous 307(a
70)used damn near as much oil as gas -- also had the dreaded "anti-foulers" on
the plugs....
it is now and has
been for about 10 years, being used, (no joke!),as a boat anchor,in about 15feet
of water/at high tide,as a moring point for a friends houseboat in the calif.
delta, and i belive it found its place in the world as it is doing a damn fine
job!!!!

305/307's
Wow you're lucky. The 307 I had in my '69 (purchased in
'85), smoked like a chimney! Seriously, and no exageration, that sucker
would burn 1 qt of 20w50 in a 40 mile trip! When I floored the
car, it would leave a cloud. I also had spark plug extensions on all 8
cylinders, otherwise I was constantly changing oil fouled plugs! I
bought my oil by the gallon.
I was never so happy as the day I shi*t
canned that engine! :-) Maybe not as happy as the tree-huggers
though! :-)
The odometer read 104k, but I always wondered if it
was really 204k!
take care,

It didn't smoke, tick, knock, nothing. In fact the only thing I
may do to it s freshen it up with a new timing chain, oil pump, and maybe a
rering kit if I think it needs it. The heads obviously need to be
redone to take todays unleaded gas, but other than that I see no problems
with a 307. The 305 that i rebuilt and put in my cousins Monte Carlo,
was a roller 305 and let me tell ya, that thing has some zip for being a
305, smokes the tires pretty good. The 267 gets my vote for the
worst chevy engine ever made.
