Kelly,

I'm quite happy with the Flowmaster American Thunder kit I used in my 67 SS.  I think they came with a 30 series muffler but it's different than the standalone 30 series I believe.  Had to be for the difference in price.  The kit was $290 w/mufflers (2.5") compared to the pipe kit at $199...making the mufflers $100 for the pair.  Designed for header equipped cars, they came complete with all pipes and hangars from the headers back.  Not too loud on the highway and no "drone" at speed.  Part #17119.

The Purple Hornies are header mufflers and attach directly to the flange. I'm not big on 'em....too loud. I made the mistake of getting Flowmaster 2's for the MCSS....way too loud as well (and they were full pipes exiting after the wheel). Next up will be the tried and true Thrush Turbos when I redo the Elky exhaust.....I'm also gonna have 'em do the pipes in turn downs like the T/A (without the splitters though....they are very expensive).

Does anyone have a preference of glasspacks?  Do header mufflers, like the FlowTech Purple Hornies attach directly to the collector on the headers?  Do you use another type of muffler or are you just shifting the muffler forward on the car in comparison to the traditional way mufflers are mounted?  Can you then use a traditional H pipe exhaust kit to finish the job?  I see Flowmaster has 2 kits available for my 69 Chevelle, the straight pipe under the bumper and the curved pipe turned down under the bumper.  I like the straight pipe look.  What do you, my peers, think?
