I agree with what you guys are saying but it will never happen. The car manufacturers are tooled to build cars a certain way & going back to frames, etc just would be to costly. They also have to meet all kinds of safety, crash & emissions laws now. The new cars "fold on impact" for a reason, it cushions the impact & lessons the impact forces for the occupants. The only part of a modern car that is not supposed to crush is the passenger compartment. Also the car companies have been trying to make cars that "we cannot work on ourselves" for many years now. They want as much exclusive rights to repairs as they can get so they make it either almost impossible or at least cost prohibitive for individuals to work on their own cars.
I haven't seen the new GTO but I like the T-Bird. But these kinds of cars are about the best we're ever going to get out of Detroit in today's world.
We are going to have to take our classics & restore them, improve them & maintain them ourselves. Once they are gone.... they're gone forever.
Be glad that we still can own them....that will eventually go away as well....
