We put an entire front disk brake system from a '72 El Camino into my '66 SS convertible. It was a nice bolt-in, but the proportioning valve isn't right for the 'vert. When hittting the brakes, the back wheels lock up, resulting in loud screetches when coming up to a stop sign (loud screetches are ok when leaving the stop sign, but looks kinds funny when just getting there!). A Jeg's adjustable prop valve will go in now that the weather in finally getting nice.

Subject: Re: [Chevelle-List] Disc brake question

Calipers - many GM use similar bolt patterns, but the Throat  may be wider.  Apparently trucks use a fatter disc than cars - or so I've gathered from a brake discussion at chevelle tech.

Proportioning valve -  vehicle weight distribution is criteria for use.  A van is quite a bit different than a coupe,  It might work on elky or wagon, but I doubt it would be 'right" for coupe.

Master Cylinder - cheap enough if you buy a rebuilt unit (I know some have problems) - why mess with the one from the van?  Are you 100% sure that it is good?

Hello Guys & Gals.....

Got a disc brake question for you. I have a 66 Chevelle Malibu that I will be putting front disc brakes to. Right now the rotors are off a 72 Cutlass. I have the oppurtunity to acquire calipers , proportioning valve and master cyclinder from a 70 Chevy Van. What I need to know would this setup work ? I know you can interchange cars , but can you interchange from a van to a car. I may have to rebuild the master cylinder it holding fluid now or would it be wiser to buy a new master cylinder?

Another question also if anyone out there has to patch panels for a 66 Chevelle fairly reasonable I be interested, need left and right fender patches.

Thanks again........John
