Welcome to the list. In 1969, the SS package became an option as opposed to a separate model as it was from 66-68 with the 396 engine. There is only ONE SS for 1969 - there is no standard SS and a different SS Option Package. Other options available only with the SS were such things as engine choices and two SS-only colors; Monaco Orange (code 72) and Daytona Yellow (code 76) and the RPO F41 suspension. Bucket seats, console, gauges, etc could all be had with a Malibu. 1969 was also the only year the SS option package could be ordered on the 300 Deluxe coupe models as well as the Malibu and El Camino and is identified by the option code Z25 on the built sheet.
The RPO Z25 option included: Wheel opening moldings Bright Roof Drip Gutter Molding (std on Malibu & Custom El Camino) Black Steering Wheel and Column (Malibu & Custom El Camino only) Steering Wheel Shroud with Black Center Area and Horn Blowing Tab (300 Deluxe only) "SS" Steering Wheel Center Emblem "SS 396" Nameplate in Black-Accented Instrument Panel Right Side Molding "SS 396" Door Sidewall Emblem (Malibu & Custom El Camino only) Black Paint Filled Rear End Panel or Tailgate Moldings (std on Malibu & Custom El Camino) Black Paint Filled Rear End Panel Moldings Malibu Series Rear Quarter End Cap, Tail Lamp & Tail Lamp Bezel (300 Deluxe only) Grille, Front Fender, and Rear End Panel or Tailgate "SS 396" Nameplate Black Painted Radiator Grille Special Hood with Ornamental Cowl Grilles Bright Bezeled Parking Lamp Lens F70-14 Wide Oval, Blackwall, White-Lettered Tires (exc El Camino) G70-14 Wide Oval, Blackwall, White-Lettered Tires (El Camino) 14x7 Sport Wheels with Special Hub Cap and Trim Ring Oval Tail Pipes (exc El Camino) This is what was ~included~ with the SS option. Other options were also available such as bucket seats on the Malibu/El Camino, gauges, etc. Since the VIN and/or cowl tag does not indicate an SS (except for the two above mentioned SS-only paint codes), without the build sheet or Protect-O-Plate, there's no way to verify it. I'd ask your appraiser if he knows what is suppose to be included in the "std SS" as opposed to the "SS Option Package" for 1969. I'd be curious to see what his answer is on that one. BTW, all data came straight from a GM Restoration kit for the 1969 model year.
