Hello,

I am having a few issues with my Chevelle after recent body off re-assembly. One item is the rear springs ride way too stiff.  Looking at it today, I wonder if the 3" spacers under the springs are factory or are they something a previous owner added to compensate for sagging springs?  The car had air shocks on it too when I bought it 16 years ago.

It is a 71 SS with a 12 bolt rear.  The following two links show the 3" spacer that is between the spring and axle in the rear.  Are these spacers normal???

Year one does not list these spacers in their catalog.  My assembly manual does not show these as part of the assembly.  It was an extremely tough time getting enough compression on the rear end to torque the control arms.

btw here is the link to the website showing the car back together and drivable.

Thanks,
