I dunno, from all the slo-mo replays I've seen, it looks like they're pulling the chute right around the first set of lights at the big end. By the time the chute has extended and is exerting any force against, the car, the front wheels have already crossed the finish line.
FWIW, I dont think they have the "third" set of lights after the finish line anymore. But, I've only been to IHRA tracks, not NHRA. As for me, I like watching best at about 1000-1100 feet. I like seeing/hearing the cars at full-song.
