There is a wiring diagram here: http://www.chevelles.com/techref/ftecref14.html
When you look at the picture that shows the back of the alternator, the yellow (white
on your car) goes to the #2 connection.

Do you have a meter? What are you reading across the battery with motor off?

What is it with motor running?

What are you reading from the red terminal; on the back of the alternator to ground?

Are you sure that you got the correct alternator? If you try running an internal
regulated alternator with the external regulator, you will have problems.

Sure hope we can all get you on the road soon.

Here is my problem. When I purchased my 69 Chevelle I had the 396 engine rebuilt.
I placed a one wire alternator on it. The alternator came with a large box of parts.
We the Alt. went bad. I thought I'd replace it with an original style one. The
wiring was still there. I did so yesterday. Hooked up the pigtail plug, red wire in
the rear and the negative battery cable to the Alt. Bracket. I took it to my motor
guy to check and see if I had everything connected correctly. I found that the
Alternator is not charging the battery. My problem is my engine guys say he doesn't
not much on the electrical side.
Can anyone give me some advise. Does anyone have a diagram as to how the wires
are connected (including voltage reg. etc.) Thanks guys and gals..
I'm been trying to get her on the road to enjoy her his summer. I'm now starting
to get discouraged.
