Michael,
I know it's a day late and a dollar short, but the September issue of Car
Craft has a "Sticky-Tire Test" where they test/compare the MT ET Drag
(28x10.5-15), MT ET Street (28x12.5-15), BFG Drag Radial (P275/60R15), and
BFG Radial T/A (275/60R15) tires.
These are the results:
Tire pres Launch RPM 60-foot
MT ET Drag
Run 1 12 4500 1.71
Run 2 11 4500 1.61
Run 3 10 4500 1.55
MT ET Street
Run 1 12 4500 1.60
Run 2 11 4500 1.59
Run 3 10 4500 1.57
BFG Drag
Run 1 13 4500 1.92
Run 2 10 2000 1.70
Run 3 9 2000 1.73
BFG T/A
Run 1 32 2000 2.11
In the article, they state BFG recommends a medium size burnout with tire
pressure no lower than 13 pounds. 10 pounds was the best, obviously. 9
pounds, "resulted in slower 60-foot times and created a stability issue on
the big end."
HTH next time.
