1) 4 speeds were an option / base SS came with a 3 speed stick
2) not really except for the original sales slip
3) All options you have mentioned were not SS only options.  Did you know bucket seats were an option even for an SS?
4) Personnel preference I would say. Myself I have always liked the autos.
