I have a stupid home made idler pulley on my Camaro.   Same problem, couldn't
keep a belt on.  I changed *everything* on the front of the engine trying to fix
this, new pulleys, water pump, alt, multiple belt brands/sizes, etc.  Even
switched to the pre 68 alternator setup.  The idler problem cured the problem.
Silly, I know........ but the belt stays on, even with 7000rpm runs.
