I noticed if I pushed down on the pushrod, the lifter would press down about a half inch or so.   You make it sound like it was easy for you to depress the Hyd lifter. If it WAS easy to push down, then the lifters are no good for Hyd lifters. If the bottom of the lifters are dished inward, then the lifter are bad and so is the camshaft. Put a straight edge on the bottom of the lifter, it should be high in the middle. It should be hard to depress a Hyd lifter.
