Dan,
        A 350 or 400 trans will work fine with the existing column
shifter.  The trick with the indicator lens is that the lens is not a
flat piece.  It is thick at the bottom & tapers toward the top.  You may
be able to make a flat lens & shim it in place but I haven't tried yet.

Sweet - that sounds easy enough to do. I'd heard that it can be 
removed without removing the cover, but I wanted to make sure before 
I did it.

I'm putting in a TH200-4R. I want to keep the column shifter for a 
while, due at least in part to the prices of floor shifters up here, 
but if it doesn't work the  it doesn't work.  We'll see what happens, 
I guess.
