Hi JD,
While I am no expert, not a welder by trade, and probably
couldn't make it as one, I took a welding class and have a
brother-in-law that teaches welding as well as works in the trade. He
recommended the Lincoln brand name to me. My instructor recommended any
American made welder and said that the major brand names such as Miller,
Hobart, Lincoln, are all quality products.
My instructor also said that if all you are doing is auto work with it,
one of the little 110v units such as a 135 model will work just fine. I
bought a 220 v 155 model on clearance at Home Depot at a price I
couldn't pass up. Make sure you have 220 v in your garage or have plans
to put an outlet in, if you buy a 220 v unit.
I don't know if you have a Tractor Supply store near you, but they just
had one heck of a sale on Millers in that model. Major car swap meets
and car shows have them new as well and sometimes at show specials.

I'm in the market for a mig-welder and was wondering from the panel
guys out here what seems to be the best bang for the buck available. I
also heard of a arc/mig/tig combo rig available. Its probably out of my
price range however I was interested in anyone's thoughts about these as
well.
