I don't think a direct replacement is possible due to the size of the single bulb compared to the size required for an LED array. Third brake lights are available in LED as well as regular lamp form that will fit on the package tray. A plug in connecter (like a trailer hitch) would make it removable but I'd leave it there. I've had one on my 67 for quite a few years - a very good investment.
