John, my '66 has the same holes and I think the
rockers are original. The holes I think are from the die stamping. They are
there for the die to grab onto to move it to the next stamping station. These
parts are not made in one stamp of the die but a series of hits. The rocker
molding clips have small holes drilled to screw the clip to. New rockers don't
have these holes. You have to drill them. Or you can weld up the oval holes and
have no rockers.

I need help, the
rocker panel on my 66 have four pieces of metal that have a lip that look like
they attached to the car then the rocker panels slip on top of them, the
rocker panels have holes drilled in the bottom to attach to the underside, the
body shop took everything off the car and all I have left is 6 large oval
holes on each side, is there a insert that goes in the holes to screw the
pieces of metal? The catalogs just list clips......doesn't look like
clips will work...any comments and help would be
appreciated.
