I joined the list a few weeks ago and have found it
very informative. I bought a 69 back in June at the street machine nationals
in Indy, it has all the SS 396 badging but had a 94 centerbolt 350 with TH
400 trans and 3:73 12 bolt posi. I'm pretty sure it's not a real SS since i
got it at a good price but i got what i was looking for, a solid body with
original floors and trunk in great shape, power steering and brakes, its GM
firethorn red with black interior.
Anyway it now has a 502 and built 700R 4, I just got it running last weekend
and it is amazing to say the least.
The other day i read on the list that the rearend is 62 1/2'' OD at the
axles, i measured mine last night in preparation for a 9'' and it is 60
3/4'' without the drums, does my car have the wrong rearend or was the
gentleman mistaken at 62 1/2''.
The other thing is that i put Torque Tech 3'' exhaust on it with 3 chamber
Flowmasters and it sounds great
I have 2 chambers on my Impala SS with 2 1/2'' pipes and it drones at low
RPM, I highly recomend the 3 chambers, great tone but not too loud at least
not for my tastes.
