John's question brought a related topic to mind. I know a guy on the west side of Michigan who has a '74 GMC Sprint with a numbers matching 454. It needs rocker panels and some other work. Engine is apart but it's a good block and heads - never bored, etc. It is, says the owner, one of only 79 examples built that year. I had looked at it for my nephew but I am worried about how much work is involved in rocker panels. I think it could be had for less than $2k...maybe even $1500.
The engine is T1120CWX54R5007137, date code K1673, the heads are 386781 (large oval) in case anyone knows the GMC number data, I'd be interested to know if it is indeed a match to 1974.
