That's funny you guys say mention the competition.  When I got the autozone alternator I needed the have the pulley switched from serpentine to v-groove and I asked them if they'd do it and the guy told me he was way too busy to be doing stuff like that.  So I just said really nicely, okay no problem.  I'll just buy this one for now (under warantee) and go to Checker and have them switch pulleys for me again.  Then I'll bring the old alternator back for a refund.  He said, "they'll do that for you at Checker?" and I told him they did it for me last time even though I hadn't bought the alternator there.  So, he changed his tune pretty fast and went in the back and spent all of 3 min. changing my pulley for me :)

Oh yes! Mention the competition... it should help you out. I know your pain... My apologizes to anyone that works at one of these places... but 95% of these people know diddly crap about what they sell. I had a similar problem with a place here. When I purchased my Chevelle it was barely drivable, but I wanted to drive it about 40 miles home rather then tow it. Of course the kid I bought it from was nice enough to leave me a roached out battery. Only place open I went and got a battery and drove it home.... after some time the battery just didn't hold a charge for anything. It held full voltage and would fail a load test. I returned it for an exchange and of course got flack... well we have to charge it cause it was .2 volts from full... irritated I said fine. The next day they tested it and said it was ok. For anyone who doesn't know... I'm a ASE technician and I tested the battery at the shop I work at. I think it is safe to say I know how to test a battery ;) I kindly asked how much of a load they tested it at. I got the old :well uhhh uhhh... the machine just sticks the right amount of load on it" Ah sorry.... wrong answer buddy. I finally called the regional rep or manager and he stopped by the shop... I verified my results... and wow did I get some schmoozing. Got a refund for the amount I paid for a new battery I used of the shelf (A good Interstate cause I was tired of waiting to get some other work done on the chevelle)... got a new top of the line battery and ton of apologizes. So you can win these battles... at this point I would talk only to a head store manager and would threaten to take all you business to their competitors if they do not make this right. Good Luck.

Could be machine or tester......I would raise a tall gripe with someone way
up at Autozone.  Be sure to mention Pepboys solved the problem.  That may
get more response than anything!
