I know that the "strato-bench" (bench bottom w/ bucket-style back and an armrest in the center) was an option in various Oldsmobile models starting around 1966, and was standard in Olds convertibles at least up until 1972. I don't think it was offered in the Malibu (or any other GM A-body), but the Cutlass & Malibu are both A-body cars. The seats would bolt right into each other, so it would be an easy swap. Lots of people prefer the strato-bench over the conventional bench. I have a strato bench in my 68 Olds convertible.
BTW, this is not to be confused with "strato-buckets" which were really just regular buckets. I guess the "strato" part just sounded good. However, my bench seat has a fold down arm rest in the middle. Was this an option for '64's or was the bench seat replaced at some time in this cars past?
