I know that the "strato-bench" (bench bottom w/ bucket-style back and an
armrest in the center) was an option in various Oldsmobile models starting
around 1966, and was standard in Olds convertibles at least up until 1972. I
don't think it was offered in the Malibu (or any other GM A-body), but the
Cutlass & Malibu are both A-body cars. The seats would bolt right into each
other, so it would be an easy swap. Lots of people prefer the strato-bench
over the conventional bench. I have a strato bench in my 68 Olds
convertible.

BTW, this is not to be confused with "strato-buckets" which were really just
regular buckets. I guess the "strato" part just sounded good.

Subject: [Chevelle-List] Split front bench seats

My '64 Malibu convertible (in resto) has what appears to be original split
front bench seats (I say original because the faded color matches the rear
seat color). However, my bench seat has a fold down arm rest in the middle.

Was this an option for '64's or was the bench seat replaced at some time in
this cars past?

Thanks,
Kurt
