Special Performance - Front and Rear Suspension. I don't have the literature that describes just what the option consisted of though. I would suspect heavier springs, shocks, anti-sway bars, etc. There was also a F40 option that included "..special front and rear springs and shock absorbers." I think, as Tom said, the F41 got heavier sway bars as well.
>From the 69 and the 70 restoration kits: 1969 - F40 available on 13000 [any Chevelle model] 1970 - F40 available on 13000 (exc. Wagon) 1969 - F41 available on the 13427-37 (300/300 Deluxe) and 13637-67 (Malibu hardtop and convertible) *but* only with the SS396 option. 1970 - F41 available on the 13637-67 and no note of the SS package being mandatory. Both the F40 and F41 are listed in the "Extra Cost Equipment" section so I can't say for CERTAIN that the SS option automatically got one or the other or just the opposite; like the 69 F41 required the SS396 option but maybe the SS396 option didn't automatically get the F41 (or F40 for that matter) suspension package. I can't imagine not ordering the F40 or F41 if you opted for the SS package, but then again there are a few 3-speed SS Chevelles out there that didn't opt for the 4-speed or TH400 either.
