Did you use the ARP main bolts on the the engine?  I did this and had the exact same problem to the "T"  I had come to find out that the oil pump was sitting on an angle because of the height of the ARP bolt.  I had to have the oil pump machined so it would work properly, and then the problem was gone.  I know exactly how this feels too, as soon as I fired up the fresh 454 that I had sunk alot of money into, the damn thing knocked.  I pulled it out 2 times and after the second I said screw it and I sent it out to a pro and had him fix it.  If it is not that, maybe the main bearings are incorrect or the crank is ground wrong??  Just throwing another idea out there for ya
