Rich,
I looked into the King Cool setup by Airtiques. With this system you remove everything but the dash openings. The system has everything you need (heat, air, defrost) you cover the fan and square holes in the firewall. Only thing on the firewall is four AN fittings for air and heater hoses. The whole system fits under the dash and with a little work can fit to you factory outlets. Jeff Klemens has some excellent photos of his Airtiques installation on his 72 Chevelle. When you get to the site, look under Body and Electrical for the firewall work and Interior and Electrical for the dash work. If you have some time it is an excellent site to browse.

Thanks for the reply Denny. I don't have a problem installing an aftermarket
air system but if possible, I'd like to keep the original. What would I do
with the hole for the air in the firewall? I wonder if I could use it with
an aftermarket. If not, I would probably have to change my heater/defrost
box also. Right?

Rich;

I just went through this with my 71 w/fact air. It was not working so was
going with Hot Rod Air out of Dallas. When I received it I did not like
the

quality. It was a generic system. Could not use any of the original air
system. Sent it back. Have refurbished the original system and reinstalled
it. I did want to get the evap off of the firewall, but since I have a
nice

built 350, doubt I'll ever go with a big block.

I'm sure Vintage and others make a specific system for your 66. Here is a
good article on a 64 install.

MessageIf you have an air car already, do you have to get rid of the
original unit or do they make parts to keep the original look?

I have to agree with you on the looks Herb. I have seen a few at shows
that I really like!

While I have read mixed reviews on Vintage Air, I haven't found any
others that have sold me yet on making a great product that looks and

works

great in our Chevelles. At this moment in time I am thinking that's what
I'll be buying here soon.

I found the easiest way to make an AC engine compartment look good is
to replace the factory AC with a Vintage Air system, then smooth the
firewall and paint it! :)
