What about the spring setup on your ‘65? Are they different sizes or identical?
In the meantime, I’m soaking the inside of the stud with PB Blaster and will give it a series of good, steady pulls.
I’m planning on getting a rebuild kit (they even come with a zerk fitting to grease the bar). How much grease did you fill the zbar with?

Kurt,
I just got done rebuilding mine on my 65 Malibu. Although all my parts were new, the ball should come out once you remove the retaining ring. If your z-bar is still full of grease, the grease might be creating enough of a suction type seal that will make you pull a little harder than you might think you should. Use steady pressure, the grease will let go eventually and it will come apart. Hope this helps.
