Now was it really necessary to throw in the comment about how it's 85
degrees? You know there's quite a few of us freezing our frickin' asses
off! :)

Back to your problem... Up until the steam started spewing, everything was
ok I assume? Like Clint said, the thermostat would be one of the first
things to check. Another cheap check is the rad cap. If it's no good it
won't keep the cooling system pressurized.

Are using a clutch fan? If yes you may want to make sure the clutch is
still good. The clutch on my Elky lasted about 4 months (hence the switch
to electric fans).

Last, I'd check the water pump. If you have a stock type pump it's possible
the impeller is slipping on the shaft.

Thanks Clint,
I guess the thermotat is an inexpensive place to start. What other areas
could cause the same problem?I guess i am looking for a cooling system
diagnostic checklist. It is a long walk to the parts store and 85 degrees
only want to do it once.

Just because the thermostat isn't very old doesn't mean it isn't bad. I
had
the same thing happen to my 91 Chevy truck the weekend I went to get my

I have never had a problem before with my car over heating, now after
driving down the block large amounts of steam spewing from over flow
vent. The thermostat is 6 months old the hoses look o.k.
Does anybody have any idea how i can diagnose the problem
thanks
