Does anyone know where I can find a 8.5 in. 10 bolt for a 70 elco? The original is an 8.2 and strong enough to handle my 406 sbc. Please advise.
Thanx,
Don
as long as it is built right it will hold up. 8.5" rears for A-bodies are tough to come by. I have a mildly built 350 sbc in my 86 Cutlass daily driver and the 7.5" rear in that is holding up just fine and they are the weakest of the GM rears. Throw in a nice Eaton Posi, moser axles, your choice of gears, some new bearings and seals and you are ready to rock n' roll. Oh yeah, and make sure it is set up right :-). The biggest cause of rear failure is it not being set up correctly.
