I live in Mesa and am running a 454 with a 3-core and stock 70 shroud. The
car usually runs 191 degrees all year long and hasn't walked over 205 in
traffic on the hottest day. I don't have AC (yet) so I can't tell you what
the difference will be. You might want to look in the archive section on
the topic about electric fans also (as if you didn't have enough variables
already). Either way, the fellas on this list are really good at giving
helpful information. Good luck and let us know how it works out.
P.S.- are you going to be at the cruise on Central on April 12th? Should be
a few hundred cars in the parking lot that evening as well as those darn
pesky street racers doing heads-up drag racing with Chevelles, Camaros,
Vettes, Mustangs, Roadrunners, and Hemi Cudas.

Subject: [Chevelle-List] after market air conditioning
Does anyone on the list have any experience running aftermarket air
conditioning in a really hot part of the country (105-115 F during the
day)? If so, what brands, r12 or 134, how well do they work during the
hottest part of the summer? Almost anything will work in wimpy
temperatures of 80-90F but falls flat in Phoenix during June, July and
August.
I have a '65 Malibu that never had air. It also doesn't have a fan shroud.
According to the factory shop manual the shroud sat in front of the
radiator, an inefficient design. I'm planning to run the biggest aluminum
radiators I can fit in but have had conflicting advice on whether I need a
shroud. I get three stories: 1) fabricate one behind the radiator 2) none
needed and 3) none needed if I run a 6 blade pulley mounted fan or 1 or
more electric fans mounted close behind the radiator.
Any advice or pointers would be appreciated. Thanks.
