Brad,
The cooler you're interested in is manufactured by B&M, and it is
self-contained with an integral fan, activated by a thermal sensor housed in
the cooler.  As for using it as an oil cooler rather than a trans cooler, I
don't see why it wouldn't work just as well in that capacity.

Afterall, it's merely a thermal exchange unit... and I suspect the main
concerns would be matching the size of the unit to the amount of heat that
needs to be dissipated.  B&M has coolers that are available in several
different sizes to accommodate most needs.  Hope this helps...
