I was just looking at the engine compartment and trying to size up the best way to tackle this and am concerned that there may not be enough room to fit these on from above without damaging them or the engine comaprtment.
Has anyone done this where they could offer me some suggestions on how to proceed, or am I doomed to be pulling a lot of things or at worst the engine?

This is an easy one. Jack the car up as high as you can get it. Slip them up from underneath. You can't get them on from above. They will slide right up into place from the bottom. If it were a big block, it would be a different story.
