I thought the 1-piece main wasn't introduced until '86 or '87...shouldn't a '78-
81 application use a block with a 2-piece main seal?

Jason, look by the distributor hole for a casting date and on the small ledge 
in front of the passenger-side cylinder head for an engine ID code and partial 
VIN.  This will help determine the specific application.
