I'm going to be doing a cam swap (SBC 350) and as part of the job I'm going to
be installing new valve springs and seals.

Will umbrella-style oil seals fit inside stock "Z28" springs (1.25" diameter)?
Or do they require larger springs? One of my SBC rebuild books recommends o-
ring seals on all 16 valves and umbrella seals on the intakes.

Any tricks to removing the inner damper from the outer valve spring? My new
springs have some pretty sharp edges on them and I want to dress them with a
grinding wheel before installing them.

Can anyone recommend a good tool for valve spring disassembly that's done with
the head still installed on the engine? I only own the C-style spring
compressor. If it matters, the heads have press-in studs.

Do stock 7-degree valve spring retainers and locks ever "wear out" when used on
a stock engine with a mild cam? After all, now's the time to replace them if
it'd be a good idea to do so!

Thanks!

Brad O.
