Hi Tom, I have the 1406 carb (electric choke) running on my stock manifold, and out of the box mine was running rich as well. You could really smell the gas exhaust. The default setting for mine was the screws were angled at approx 1:00, so I turned them CLOCKWISE to 3:00 and now it seems to be doing alot better. The Edelbrock carb screws definitely go clockwise to make the mixture more lean- we were just discussing that last week.
