You might try Patterson Driveshafts here in Indy.  They are top notch, 
and even have a special ordered balancing machine to spin the shaft at 
2500 rpm rather than than the typical 500rpm.

I have a steel shaft with 1350 ujoints, good for 1200hp.  They build 
shafts for some big racers, including pro-mod cars with 2500+ hp.

And I'll bet they are priced less than the big names you mention.  :-)
