Ron Make sure your distributor is turning when you crank the engine. That could explain only seeing spark on #1 cylinder. Also take a good look at the ignition coil. I'm assuming that yours is in the cap? Check *ALL* your grounds very carefully . One last thought for you. If you take a 12 volt light bulb and connect one end to the tack lead of the distributor and the other end to a good ground it should flash as long as you are cranking your engine. I use a 194 bulb mounted in a side marker base with alligator clips for connections. If you don't have that a 12 volt test light will work fine too. That will verify the full primary side of your ignition system.
