Peter, I don't claim to be an expert on windshields, but I have removed and replaced several on A-bodys. The pros will generally use a urethane sealant by 3M to either reseal a windshield or to attempt to stop a leak. If the leak persists, you will have to take out the window and re-bed it. My personal preference on a reinstall on an A-Body is to use 3M Butyl Rubber tape. Either 5/16 or 3/8 thick. This seals well(it was how they did it at the factory) and it sets the height of the window off the frame and makes the molding set properly on the windshield. A skilled professional can accomplish this with Urethane, but I do better with butyl rubber. When re-setting the glass be sure you have it where you want it when you press it into the butyl rubber. You only get one shot. Hope this helps.
