[Chevelle-list] Cheesy fan shroud

This is my first post to the list.  I became a Chevelle owner a month ago 
when I swapped my Nova drag car for an almost fully restored 1968 SS 
396.  The original fan shroud on the car was missing the bottom 1/3, and 
the top was cracked into two pieces.  I ordered the OOT217R shroud from OPG 
and have just spent over an hour installing what should be a bolt-on 
piece.  Is there another alternative to this shroud other than the NOS 
stuff that's so expensive?  Herb's ordeal has me a little paranoid about 
using this "cheesy" shroud.  I'm going to fabricate a piece of aluminum to 
fill in the semicircular gap on the shroud between the top of the radiator 
and the shroud & I think that will give it some needed support, but it's 
gonna look like a patch job.  I'm hoping something better is out there.
