I don't think the 3.31 ratio was offered from 55-64,Tom. I think 3.08 and 3.36 were the two gear ratios offered in GM passenger cars w/Powerglide trans.

More than likely it is a 3.31.  Don't forget that tire size comes into play here.  The taller the tire, the lower (numerically) the ratio will turn out.
As for highway RPM's, I am turning 3600 RPM at 75 MPH on the highway in my 70.  It has 4.10's in it.  Some say that's too high for open road, I say that's BS.  My car gets 15 MPG at that rate and it runs great, has over 10,000 miles on the motor.  Most say to try and keep the RPM's at or lower than 3400 on the higway so you are good to go my friend :-).
