I had a fan on my Nova. It also was installed with ties. That was 6 years ago. It's still on with no problems for the new owner. Is it a pusher or puller? If it's a puller, ( inside the engine compartment) you can try and mount it like they do on the current cars. Heck, check the junk yards and maybe you can find something to mount on the outside if you want.
