Hey Bob,
I
went to Keesler for a class a couple of years ago and happened to be there while
Cruisin the coast was going on. I think you will be surprised at how the place
has changed. I went there in the middle 80's for another reason and the place
changed drastically from the middle 80's to the late 90's. Those Casinos really
woke that sleepy town up!
When I was there they had some Cruisin oriented
stuff going on, but the biggest name entertainment going on at the casinos for
this event was Bowser from Sha Na Na.
As I understand it this event goes all the way from
Biloxi to N'oleans, so the better deals on hotels will be in one of the
smaller towns in between. I am sure the casinos will raise their room rates good
for this event.
They shut down a lot of the other AF training bases, so
they shove a lot of people into this place which usually means sleeping in old
open barracks for lower ranking enlisted guys. If you are retired AF you MAY be
able to get into Visiting Officer Quarters.
I'd be washing my car daily if I was taking one
down there. You are right smack next to the beaches on that
cruise.

. I was stationed
at Keesler AFB in Biloxi for 3 years in the late 60's so I am looking forward to
another visit. Friends in Mobile have made our Hotel Reservations so I
don't know where I will be staying.
