there is no ground wire on an alternator... please don't try to hook one up. It pulls its ground through the mounting points.
 
1 of the small wires goes to the voltage regulator or "sensing" point, and the other goes to the idiot light.

Recently put in a new alternator where there was not one, was missing from engine. I have one wire going to the + positive, another set of 2 wires going into a plug into the alt. Now the 3rd wire is a ground does that get connected to the block , body ?? Thanks in advance
