I took a little different direction on my 65 Malibu. I swapped out the intake and carb from my 327 Elky to the 283, stock intake with Q Jet. I wanted to keep the original appearance on the Malibu but had a real hard time finding a small single snorkel filter to fit the Q Jet. I did find a later model cleaner with the right base, so I cut the carb mounting piece out of the used base and cut the original two bbl. lower pan and welded the two together. On the car you cannot tell the filter housing is not original. And yes guys, I know the Q Jet was not the correct carb for a 65 283, but I only show the car at local events and it's not concourse I was after, just the stock appearance.
