I've taken mine off by using the claw end of a hammer. Slip the "V" of the claw end over the lever just behind the knob, pull the hammer towards the end of the lever and the knob will come off. There is no set screw - only a press on / friction fit.

Happy Holidays all,
I am trying to repair my heater in my '66 Malibu, and
was wondering if anyone knew if the front "knobs" on
the levers are removable? I'm trying to switch a
broken part in my current heater with a good one, and
need to see if I can get the chrome knob-like pieces
off the front of the lever.
Thanks,
Jim
