I just saw something familiar on 'Home Improvement'. Tim was racing Bob Vila on their riding lawn mowers. Of course, Tim had souped his up. The back view of Tim's mower showed what appeared to be one of these Turbonique units we were talking about awhile back, complete with flames shooting out the back pipe, and a big fuel tank off to the side. I've seen this episode many times, but have never noticed this before.

On another note, I drove about 300 miles Monday afternoon and evening, from western Illinois to central Wisconsin. It took about 9 hours. Most was on U.S. interstate highways. What a pathetic mess! In many areas, no plows were out, several inches of snow were on the road, and traffic was moving around 40mph. I know the highway budgets are in bad shape in WI, and I expect our state & county & town roads to be maintained a bit less. But I sure thought the Interstates would be well taken care of. It was some places, but in general it was not.

And gas in Iowa was $ 0.20 per gallon less than at home...

That is a cool article in this months Hot Rod magazine on the Turbonique drag axle cars. For some reason they used a real Z-16 Chevelle. This gives us Chevelle guys bragging rights to the quickest factory stock engine car in history. The 1965 Z-16 Chevelle. It ran in the 9s with original 396 engine. Of course it had a mini turbine on the axle for help but the rest of the car was mostly original.    That would be a cool car for nostalgic drag racing.

 Kent:
I have an ad from 1965 (1965 Z16 with turbo rearend) with the turbo rear end. It bolted to the rear and produced some great ET's. according to the ad the stock z16 produced 1350 HP to rear wheels and was officially timed @ 149 mph @9.95 ET. the turbo-axle was produced by Turbonique, inc. Their address was 20 North Kent Street - Orlando, Florida 32805.the ad states  that when you flip the turbo ignition to standby , your throttle foot can call for that extra power when you need it - and you get it instantly, because the time lapse from ignition to full turbine power was 1/20 of a second.the time of 9.95 seconds was @ the Dallas , Georgia Dragstrip July 24, 1965. This probably was the fastest Z16.
