The thing that makes it work is the turbulance at the bottom of the windshield. In that area, the air is in a tumbling motion which forces the cool air between the hood and the windshield where the duct work begins. Regardless of the air flow, it still works better for getting in cool air as opposed to having an open element setup or a stock snorkel air cleaner that pulls in all that hot air from the engine compartment.
