Harlan, I have done restorations on several GM conv. I'm doing
one right now. The problem you are having is a common one. First understand that
the glass will not go between the two rubber seals. It only presses against the
other seal. Once you have adjusted the glass as best you can the only option is
to modify the screw holes to allow the weatherstrip to be further adjusted. I
have elongated the holes and redrilled them to set the rubber better against the
glass. I'm not sure I would shim the W/S because you will have a hard time
sealing it under the top frame. You are going about it in the right way, it's
just one of those tough jobs to get just right.
