If I may make a suggestion,I wouldn't use the 78-88 G-body brake kits as they only use a 10" rotor. A 55 Chev isn't a lightweight and really needs something with a 11" rotor. As a Baer dealer,I can sell you their Super Street brake kit for that car that features vented 11" rotors and Corvette PBR twin piston calipers for around $795. It retails for $1095.
If you must use a G-body brake kit,the best bang for the buck,IMO,is the 55-57 kit from Total Cost Involved. I had their brake kit and dropped spindles on my 57 Nomad.

go and pick up a super chevy mag they have A:OT of brake change kits in there.
I was just reading on them today most are around 350 and up and thats with new
everything. If not you can go spindle(only) and save a few bucks by buying over
the counter brakes (ie 78-88) brake swap. it about 209 bucks.

just shop around you will find it ... check E bay also I have had pretty good luck
with them also.
but I would not buy from a restore-er type CO. they kinda jake up the price 100 or so bucks.

I just purchase a 55 chevy with a 454 and drum brakes. I would like to change them over to power front disc brakes. I can get a change over kit from c.a.r.s. for $750. But I was wondering if there is another chevy out there that is interchangeable with the 55 that I could get my hands on for a little less money. Any web sites would also be helpful.
